Vouchers and gift cards
A voucher is a balance. Someone has money with you, and they spend it, possibly across several rentals.
That is a genuinely different thing from a discount code, which is a rule, which is why the two are separate screens.
Vouchers are an optional feature, switch them on under Settings → Features.
The list
Vouchers shows each voucher with its remaining balance and what it started at (€ 30 of € 50 issued), its expiry date or Always valid, and its status. New voucher issues one.
Issuing a voucher

About generated codes
Codes are generated in blocks of four characters, from an alphabet that leaves out 0/O, 1/I/L and U/V. That is not decoration. A gift-card code has to be read off a card by someone in a hurry and dictated over the phone without a spelling argument.
Statuses
| Status | Meaning |

| Active | Has balance and is within its dates. |
| Used up | The balance reached zero. |
| Expired | Its date has passed. Worked out from the date, so an expired card reads as expired the moment it is. |
| Cancelled | You called it off. |
Redeeming
Two ways:
- From the voucher screen: Redeem, then enter the amount and optionally the booking it belongs to.
- On a booking: enter the code in the Financial section when creating a booking, or in the widget. The remaining balance is shown before anything is drawn.
Every draw is recorded. When someone asks where the other € 40 went, you can answer.
Two limits apply to every redemption:
- It never exceeds the remaining balance.
- It never exceeds what the booking is worth.
A voucher pays for rentals. It does not hand out cash.
A voucher is not a discount
On the booking, a voucher goes into its own line, separate from any discount. The rental costs what it costs, and the voucher pays part of it, so an invoice can show the two as what they are. A gift card is not a price cut.
Selling vouchers
Issuing and redeeming are what this screen does. Taking money for a voucher at the counter is handled through the ordinary payment flow.
Errors your team may see
- We do not know this voucher. The code does not exist.
- This voucher can no longer be used. It was cancelled, has expired, or is used up.
